I like words. I like off the wall words, I like words that are underutilized and haven't seen the light of day for many, many years. Honestly, words are fun, finding new 'old' words for things is fascinating, and a bit thrilling for me. If I could be an etymologist, I think I'd be overly thrilled. It's just a fascinating thing for me of how words and languages have evolved from one thing to another, how different cultures have adapted them to meant different things, and how I particularly love finding those obscure references that I know no one else will make.
Nobody ever questions my URL. That makes me a bit sad really, I mean I know there's Google out there, and chances are if you really wanted to know what it meant, you'd probably just Google the words to see their meanings. To be fair, when I came up with the URL, I was looking for a user name for a writing blog on Tumblr, and my thought was to find some obscure word for writing. Thus, I jumped on the internet and went in search of 'obscure words'. A wide search parameter I know. I stumbled across a website that acts as a dictionary for unknown words, and with a few clicks, I found the word Expatiate. It's a wonderful word that means to 'speak or write at great length or in detail'. It made some form of sense to me, but it was too short, just one word of obscure usage. So I kept digging.
The second word I found was Miscellanarian. Yes, it is in fact a real word, coined in the 1913 Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary. It means, surprise surprise, 'of or pertaining to miscellanies'. It was perfect, since I only dabble in writing my own things, I wrote a large number of things in miscellaneous forms. Thus it was born on Tumblr. When I decided I need step out into the world and start something that might give me a bit of a leg up in the job market, I turned to this idea of writing miscellaneous things, borrowed it from my Tumblr blog, and popped it up into the idea of writing book reviews. Now I'm rambling so I'll digress.
